According to Montessori there are six critical periods that
genetically programed blocks of time in which a child is eager and able to
master certain tasks.
It is important for each child to master the specific skills
at their own learning pace to achieve inner satisfaction. This means that it is
better to let the child work on and master the things they truly desire to
learn rather than telling them what they can or cannot work on.
Montessori thought authorities used rewards and punishments
to make children submissive. This means that children anticipated or looked for
approval on everything they did and forgot to think on their own and fulfill
there wants and needs!
I thought she had some really valid points. But I also agreed with those who came after that said she (Montessori) didn't focus enough on creative aspects. These too, also help understanding a child's personality and are important in development.
